Poor Communication in Performance Analysis
Core PathWay
1 🌐 Why Generic Language Fails when describing performance
In the world of performance analysis and business metrics, precision is crucial. Terms like surge, plummet, exceed, underperform, outperform, analyze, evaluate, measure, calculate, forecast, project, benchmark, monitor, and track each carry specific meanings that cannot be adequately replaced with generic alternatives. When we avoid these precise terms, our communication becomes verbose, unclear, and potentially misleading. This imprecision can lead to misunderstandings about performance trends, incorrect interpretations of data, and poor decision-making. Professional analysts need these specific verbs to communicate clearly and efficiently about performance metrics and trends.
2 ❌ Poor Communication Example
Hi team, I wanted to give you an update about how our numbers are doing. The thing that shows how much money we’re making went up really fast and suddenly last month, which was good, but then the profits kind of went down really quickly right after that. We looked at all the information really carefully to try to figure out what happened. When we checked everything and tried to figure out how important it was, we saw that we’re doing worse than what we were supposed to do according to our goals. The good news is that we’re doing better than the other companies in our field. We used some math stuff to work out all the numbers, and we tried to guess what might happen in the next few months based on what we know now. We also looked at how we compare to what other companies usually do, and we’re keeping an eye on everything to make sure it stays okay. We’re writing down everything that happens so we can see how things change over time. I’ll keep checking all the numbers and stuff to see how we’re doing compared to what we wanted to achieve.
